Move-Out Cleaning Checklist to Protect Your Security Deposit
October 15, 2026 · 5 min read · By the Sage & Suds Cleaning Co. team

Moving is already stressful. The final clean is what most landlords look at first, and a few missed spots can turn into deductions. This checklist covers what property managers typically inspect.
Kitchen
Kitchens are the most common source of cleaning charges.
- Inside the oven, fridge, and freezer
- Inside every cabinet and drawer
- Stovetop, range hood, and filter
- Sink, faucet, and backsplash
Bathrooms
- Toilets inside and out, including the base
- Tub and shower, including grout and glass
- Mirrors, vanity, and inside cabinets
- Exhaust fan cover
Throughout the home
- Baseboards and door frames
- Window sills and sliding door tracks
- Closet shelves and floors
- Light fixtures and ceiling fans
- Floors vacuumed and mopped last
Timing it right
Schedule the clean after everything has been moved out, ideally the day before your final walkthrough. Take photos of each room when it is finished so you have a record if questions come up later.
